"THE GREATEST RIVALRY IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL" - That's what a 2005 Associated Press poll of Division I-A head coaches anointed the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. In 2000, ESPN named Michigan-Ohio State the greatest rivalry in any sport in North America. Since 1935, this game has decided the Big Ten championship 23 times. Twenty-three other times, it's affected the outcome of the Big Ten Title. It could do that again Saturday, should the Buckeyes win and Michigan State upset Penn State later in the day at Beaver Stadium. Two years ago, there were national championship implications at stake when No. 1 Ohio State hosted No. 2 Michigan in the teams' last meeting in Columbus. Michigan leads the alltime series, 57-41-6. But that only includes one win in the last seven years, an inconvenient truth that cost UM coach Lloyd Carr his job last year.

Ohio State's Laurinaitis Named Lott Player of the Week

Ohio State Linebacker James Laurinaitis has been named the winner of The Lott Trophy IMPACT Player of the Week presented by Wachovia.

Laurinaitis had 8 tackles, a forced fumble, 1.5 tackles for losses, a quarterback hurry and a pass defended in the Buckeyes' 30-20 win over Illinois. Ohio State will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Laurinaitis' performance

The Sports USA Radio Network proudly presents our 200th National Football League broadcast when the Minnesota Vikings visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday. Tampa, the site of Super Bowl XLIII in February, was also the site of our 100th NFL broadcast on Thanksgiving weekend, 2005, when the Chicago Bears were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' NFC North competition. The placard identifying our broadcast booth that day at Raymond James Stadium is now framed and hangs proudly in our Sports USA Radio Network studios in southern California.

Missouri Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has been named the winner of The Lott Trophy IMPACT Player of the Week presented by Wachovia.Weatherspoon had 13 tackles, 2 tackles for losses, a sack (for a 17-yard loss) and a pass breakup in Missouri's 41-24 win over Kansas State. Missouri will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Weatherspoon's performance.

For the third time this season, the No. 1-ranked college football team in the nation plays here on the Sports USA Radio Network. Top-ranked Alabama visits No. 15 LSU in our College Football Game of the Week from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday. The Crimson Tide want to avoid the fate of our previous No. 1 participants. USC lost 27-21 at Oregon State on Sept. 25, while Oklahoma fell 45-35 to Texas at Dallas on Oct. 11. Alabama leads the alltime series with Louisiana State, 43-23-5. But LSU has won the last five straight since a 31-0 rout of a Nick Saban-coached Tigers team in Baton Rouge in 2002.

Our coverage of the aerial circus known as the Big 12 Conference continues this week on the College Football Game of the Week on the Sports USA Radio Network. Nebraska meets Oklahoma at Owen Field in Norman, Okla., the site of so many Big Eight championship showdowns before the birth of the Big 12 in 1996. Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford remains in the top three on most Heisman ballots. He has to. Oklahoma's pass defense is one of the most porous in the nation. Every game is a shootout for OU, and this game should be no exception. Oklahoma has allowed at least five touchdowns the last three weeks to Texas, Kansas and Kansas State. The Sooners' status as the Big 12 Conference's defensive pass efficiency leader this week is more a matter of arithmetic than reason. OU has scored 136 points while winning two of these last three games.

DUEL IN THE DESERT - The release of the first BCS Standings has ignited calculus all over Troy. USC is fifth despite its loss at Oregon State, and ranks ahead of unbeaten Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, as well as Georgia, Florida and LSU. But before all this trigonometry about one-loss teams proceeds any further, Coach Pete Carroll has some advice: Let's worry about the one-loss teams in the Pac-10 Conference, people. The stunning reality is, USC does not control its Rose Bowl fate right now. Yes, the Trojans are in a four-way tie with Arizona, Oregon State and Oregon atop the conference. But OSU holds the Rose Bowl tiebreaker over USC, courtesy of the Beavers' 27-21 shocker on the Sports USA Radio Network back on Sept. 25.

Tennessee's Berry Chosen Lott Player of the Week

NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. - Tennessee's sensational sophomore Safety Eric Berry has been named the winner of The Lott Trophy IMPACT Player of the Week presented by Wachovia. Berry (5-11, 195, Fairburn, Ga.) had a career high 10 tackles, including one sack and his fifth interception of the season, returning it 72 yards for a touchdown in the Volunteers' 34-3 win over Mississippi State. Berry now has 397 yards in interception return yards, breaking a 60-year Southeastern Conference record. Tennessee will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund in recognition of Berry's performance.

KEEPING UP WITH THE CHAOS - Gee, we didn't know what kind of topsy-turvy craziness would be unleashed after our broadcast of Oregon State's 27-21 upset of top-ranked USC Sept. 25 on the Sports USA Radio Network. But this is a pretty good place to keep up with what's going on. We had Texas and Oklahoma in one of the great regular season college football games of the new century last Saturday. This week, No. 3 Penn State will be heard from as the Nittany Lions try to end a nine-game, 12-year losing streak against Michigan.

It will be High Noon indeed when No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 5 Texas meet for the for 103rd time in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl Saturday on the Sports USA Radio Network. For two days a year, nobody has any complaints about the Cotton Bowl stadium, which began hosting this series in 1929: January 1st and the second Saturday of October.

THE RUN FOR THE ROSES - With USC's upset loss at Oregon State on the Sports USA Radio Network, the race is suddenly wide open for the 95th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1. Two schools would like to stake a claim battle on our College Football Game of the Week this Saturday. Arizona State (2-2) and California (3-1) are each 1-0 in the Pac-10 Conference as they meet at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. The Sun Devils are already an enormous disappointment, despite the presence of the upperclassman of Pac-10 quarterbacks, Rudy Carpenter.

The No. 1 team in the nation plays here on the Sports USA Radio Network Thursday night. USC opens Pac-10 Conference play at Oregon State on our special Thursday night edition of the College Football Game of the Week. The last time the Trojans visited Corvallis in 2006, Mike Riley's eager Beavers ended their Pac-10 Conference record 27-game winning streak. Enroute to the national championship in 2004, USC had to fight its way through November pea-soup fog at Reser Stadium that was so thick, it rendered upstairs television cameras useless. The Trojans needed a punt return touchdown by Reggie Bush on which he even faked the fog into the wrong direction to get going toward victory.

The Sports USA Radio Network is an independent national syndicator of sporting events, broadcasting a college football game of the week each Saturday and two NFL games each Sunday. The company, started in 1998 by veteran Los Angeles sportscaster Larry Kahn, broadcast a few select games per season, primarily bowl games. In 2001 the schedule was expanded to include a major college football game of the week throughout the entire season. The following year Sports USA Radio began broadcasting NFL games. In 2008 the Sports USA Radio Network will once again broadcast 34 NFL regular season games as well as its college schedule consisting of 19 regular season games featuring the best teams in college football, plus 5 bowl games. In 2008, Dial Global became the official national advertising sales representative for the Sports USA Radio Network.
